Staging secret-service recovery¶
Draft. This explains a recovery capability present in the deployment source. It does not establish the current health of an environment, successful recovery, a production procedure or a guaranteed restoration time.
Zerohive's services need secure access to configuration such as the credentials used to connect to other services. A dedicated secrets service provides that access. If that service cannot provide what an application needs, an application may be unable to start or complete an action. The effect depends on the application and the configuration it needs; one reported failure does not identify every affected feature.
The staging environment is used to prepare and check changes before production. Its recovery procedure is an attended infrastructure operation for authorized operators. Having a Zerohive account, managing an organization or administering a product does not grant permission to perform this recovery.
Why recovery needs separate checks¶
Recovering a secrets service involves sensitive authority and can change the state of shared infrastructure. The implemented procedure checks its intended staging target and requires evidence about the service and its latest backup before opening recovery material. Operators must also verify the incident, the remaining healthy members and their authority under the current operational procedure.
A successful backup check means that a recorded backup job met the helper's success rules. It does not prove the backup can restore every application, establish the age of all protected data or promise that no information can be lost. Recovery of access to configuration is also separate from restoring application databases, resuming every background task or proving that every feature works.
What a reported result means¶
| Reported result | Meaning for a reader |
|---|---|
| A check could not obtain evidence | The observation is unavailable. Support must investigate before assigning a cause. |
| Recovery stopped at a prerequisite | The procedure has not established permission to continue. An older success does not override the failed prerequisite. |
| The recovery helper completed | Its configured recovery and convergence checks completed. Independent checks of the applications and current configuration delivery are still required. |
| An operator confirmed the incident was resolved | Read the scope, environment and observation time of that confirmation. It is not a permanent health guarantee. |
The source includes guarded ways to obtain or reuse operator credentials. Emergency authority is a separate decision. A failed ordinary attempt does not automatically authorize stronger credentials, bypassing a guard or repeating a sensitive operation.
What users and organizations should do¶
When an action fails, preserve the action you were taking, its approximate time, the workspace and the visible error. Use the help and support guidance to obtain help. Do not put passwords, access tokens, recovery keys or confidential configuration into an ordinary support message.
Managers and organization administrators should ask which environment and work were affected, what has been verified, and which actions remain uncertain. A service-level recovery result cannot by itself confirm that a payment, upload, message or business approval completed. Follow the relevant feature's recovery guidance before repeating consequential work.
For the broader difference between an observation and a business outcome, see service health and platform oversight. The platform overview explains how shared services support the product.
Availability and ownership¶
This page describes the staging recovery source inspected for this documentation draft. It introduces no customer recovery control or new product screen. Operators retain the private, source-owned execution procedure and incident evidence. Production recovery, customer commitments and environment-specific readiness require their own verified authority and evidence.
The operational procedure, shared platform documentation and application owners have different responsibilities. Operators recover the affected infrastructure; application owners verify their dependent functions; support communicates the verified impact and remaining limits. Reader review and actual recovery acceptance remain open.
