Department and organization insights¶
HiveOrbit helps leaders read recorded contribution across an authorized department or organization, then inspect a person's contribution in context. It brings history, licensed membership, dimensions, group summaries and limited recognition/source previews together. These are read-only views: opening them does not change work, award recognition or make an employment decision.
The intended journeys come from 06 Final Screens. The frontend is still being built. The current backend source includes corrections to the department response and database queries, but connected delivery and database behavior still require verification. These pages describe the intended experience and the implemented read rules; they do not establish successful deployment or a working connected application. Confirm availability with your administrator.
Start with the department, organization and employee guide. Use personal and team insights for your own contribution or current direct reports. Engineering and operational detail is delivered separately in the private GitHub documentation.
Use recognition and supporting evidence to interpret badge sharing, recorded claims, proof access and later corrections. Those readers have separate permissions and unresolved delivery/visibility limits; an insight preview does not grant access to evidence.
Choose the right view¶
| View | Question it helps answer | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Department Orbit | What contribution is recorded for the current licensed members of an authorized department? | Department access is separate from organization access. Current membership is reused when reading past periods. |
| Organization Orbit | What recorded contribution and group context are available within my authorized organization scope? | An organization head with the required permission can have organization-wide scope. Other permitted viewers currently receive their own department's scope. The title alone does not grant wider access. |
| Licensed People | Which active, currently licensed people can I find and inspect within that scope? | Search is by name. The signed-in viewer is excluded. This is not the complete workforce directory. |
| Employee Contribution | What current and historical measures are available for this person? | The person must still satisfy current scope and licensing. Missing contribution can be a successful, empty read rather than an access failure. |
Product access, view permissions and current employee identity are cumulative requirements. HiveOrbit must also be enabled for the workspace under its current setup and operating conditions. A saved setup or existing report does not guarantee that reporting remains available after required settings, source readiness or workspace access change. Department choices reflect authorized current departments; they are not an editable organizational chart. A former employee, an unlicensed person or a person outside the current authorized department can be absent even if past work exists. See workspace product access for licensing administration.
Read the numbers correctly¶
A contribution measure is a recorded analytical result for a period. It is distinct from recognition points, salary, a rating or a target. A group average uses available contribution measures; a person without one does not contribute zero. The included people can change from period to period, so the current licensed-member count is not necessarily every historical average's denominator.
For example, available measures of 80 and 100 average to 90. A third member with unavailable contribution is excluded from that calculation, while the current member count can still be three. The result does not prove that all three contributed equally or that the group improved if a previous period included a different set of people.
| Displayed concept | Meaning | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Previous-period change | A difference between available period measures | A cause, a performance grade or an automatically supported personal signal |
| Mean | Average of the available measures in a returned group | A ranking or adjustment for different work, roles or evidence coverage |
| Spread | Population standard deviation: how far the returned values vary around their mean | Fairness, data completeness or a reliable comparison from a small group |
| Contribution range | Lowest and highest returned measures in a cohort, with their difference | Discrimination, bias, fault or equal opportunity |
| Pairwise team difference | First returned manager team's measure minus the second's | A verified comparison of equivalent teams or a league table |
| Evidence confidence | The confidence information actually returned for that view | Complete source coverage merely because an individual's label is available |
The current group reads can combine different scoring contexts. Some sections use the word comparable, but the implementation does not consistently validate common roles, model versions, work type, complexity or a minimum group size before presenting them. Treat those sections as descriptive context. Even a one-person group's spread can be zero; zero spread does not certify fairness.
Time, membership and visibility¶
The workspace calendar determines period boundaries and displayed timezone. History ends at the selected period and includes preceding requested periods. Historical measures are read for people meeting today's employee, hierarchy and licensing rules. These views do not reconstruct the workforce or access rights as they stood then.
Past periods can remain unavailable. A later available value does not fill a gap or justify connecting a change across it. An open period can still receive evidence. A reload asks for current data; it does not rebuild history or repair a source.
Organization recognition is a small badge preview controlled by the current organization-visible policy. An empty preview is not proof that nobody received recognition. Source coverage is a bounded source/period preview, distinct from a verified confidence measure for the entire organization. Received records can include evidence accepted for processing, excluded by the applicable time window, or waiting for eligibility checks; a complete delivery count is not a count of scored work. See evidence eligibility and recovery. The full Source Health action is conditional on additional access.
Use the views in a business discussion¶
Check the scope, period, timezone, current membership and evidence limitations before quoting a result. Ask which measures were available and which roles or work types they represent. Discuss differences with the people who understand the work and its evidence; these views do not provide causal explanations, employment recommendations or automated actions.
Keep a distinction between a limited preview and a complete collection. The visible cohorts, team pairs, people and recognition cards can have different limits and ordering. Their row counts need not match one another. A missing navigation action does not authorize constructing another route or broadening access.
The overview and guide are drafts for users, managers, executives and administrators. Source reconciliation, connected frontend behavior, environment delivery and the initial reader walkthrough remain separate acceptance steps.
