Staging draft Work in progress · For review; coverage and acceptance incomplete

Grounded answers, citations and reading

HiveAI can use accessible work records and published knowledge to help answer a question. A citation connects the answer to a particular supporting passage and version. Reading that passage helps a person check what the answer supports, what it leaves out and whether it applies to their situation.

Availability: Retrieval, citation checks and protected member-document reading are implemented in the backend. The inspected frontend still blocks HiveAI entry with Not ready yet and has no standalone HiveAI application. The source-disclosure steps in this guide describe the intended 06 Final Screens experience. A complete library-to-document screen journey, live delivery and reader acceptance remain unverified. This is a draft for the initial reviewer.

What this feature provides

Capability Purpose Boundary
Grounded answer Explain information drawn from accessible supporting material A bounded selection of evidence, not a search of every organizational fact
Source disclosure Show where supporting passages came from A citation count may include several passages from the same document
Current citation check Determine whether the viewer can still receive the original evidence Saved conversation ownership does not preserve access to a withdrawn or restricted source
Current knowledge library Find documents published for members of the workspace Drafts, withdrawn publications and administrator-only processing material are excluded
Protected document reading Open the exact currently published file through a short-lived viewing session Access and version are checked again; the session does not grant signing or editing
Changed-version recovery Offer an authorized route to a newer publication when applicable The new document does not silently replace the evidence for an older answer

Start with checking an answer and its sources. The knowledge reading guide explains publication, access, document versions and recovery without inventing an unfinished screen flow. Conversations covers sending questions, saved progress and costs; speech covers spoken answers.

Value for different readers

An employee can use a focused answer to locate relevant guidance and then inspect the source. A manager can identify whether an answer depends on a particular document version before making a decision. An executive can assess the quality of adoption by asking whether people can find appropriate evidence, recognize missing information and recover when access changes.

These are potential uses, not measured improvements in accuracy, speed or cost. A polished answer, several citations or a recent timestamp does not establish completeness or organizational approval. The responsible business owner still decides which procedure or instruction applies.

Administrators maintain membership and published knowledge through their own authorized tools. Publishing a document for everyone in a workspace does not make it public on the internet. Support staff help distinguish absent content, changed access, expired viewing and service failure without asking users to disclose protected files or access credentials.

Evidence has a lifecycle

A source is made available, relevant passages are selected, current authority is checked and citations are attached to a deliverable answer. Later reads check authority again. A new publication, changed permissions, withdrawal or failed verification can make earlier evidence unavailable.

An old answer is not a permanent copy of an organization's authorized knowledge. The current conversation-history read can omit a source-dependent message when its expected citations cannot all be verified. Other saved progress and speech paths have separate behavior; do not assume every previously displayed copy is removed automatically.

Business and commercial limits

Questions and follow-ups use the governed conversation and credit controls described in the conversation guide. Reading a citation is not a promise that the answer was free, and losing access to its source does not reverse work already performed. This feature does not establish a separate document-view price or contractual retention guarantee.

Search and evidence have size and result limits. An empty answer or short source list is not proof that no relevant document exists. Private Cloud remains disabled in the inspected configuration; the existence of inherited retrieval contracts does not establish a deployed private service.

Review status

The public guidance covers users, managers, executives, administrators and support. Private references cover engineering, design and operations. All remain drafts. Screen reconciliation, connected-client behavior, current-source refresh, live provider/storage operation and the initial reviewer walkthrough must be completed before this feature is represented as accepted or delivered.

Keep personal and shared guidance distinct

Shared work memory belongs to the organization and follows a separate review lifecycle. Saving or deleting a personal memory does not publish or remove shared guidance. Follow the shared-guidance guide for authorized Tenant Admin decisions and retention boundaries.

For the origin and replacement of global guidance, see Platform Support knowledge publishing. Current-source authorization can make a retained old index version unavailable after promotion; a Published label alone does not prove search activation.
